Green Lean MC

A few words about me…

I’m a 23-year-young dreamer. This year I’ve realized that while being a dreamer is great and all, it’s more important to actually do my dreams…so last year I checked a few off the list and added a few more to my to-do list for 2011.

I’m in my last semester of college, majoring in public relation s. I’m the president of UNA PRIDE (my university’s public relations organization) which I love because I get to help other students find direction and gain career experience that will enable them to succeed, too.

I come from an incredible family who chose to raise me in a small southern town, but encouraged me to think outside the box and showed me the world. It’s my goal to visit all 50 states before I’m 30 and I’m over halfway there…it’d also be nice to get out of the country soon.

I am a runner and love how running makes me feel–strong, confident, free, and happy. I ran my first full marathon this year with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. Not only was it the most rewarding experience of my life, but it also led to a job as the coordinator for Team In Training in North Alabama. I get to help people run marathons and raise money to find a cure for cancer–talk about inspiring–sign me up.

This blog is created for awareness. Health, well-being and the environment are my passions.  As a health-conscious vegetarian, I think a lot about the food I put into my body. When diet related diseases are the number one killer of Americans, how can I ignore the fact that you are what you eat? The more research I have done on our food system, the more concerned I have become with its effect on not only our bodies, but our world. Did you know that the industrial agriculture industry contributes more to pollution than the automobile industry? Shocking, isn’t it? Going green and getting lean (and most importantly, healthy) are a matter of our daily choices. I have created this blog in order to hold myself accountable. I want to make healthy choices, so that I can live a long disease-free life.

I want to help make the world a greener place again. It’s a big dream, but not impossible. In the words of Mother Teresa: “We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”

And it all starts with being aware.

Thanks for stoppin’ by!

Mary
