1000 dollars and a giveaway winner

Even though it’s not reflected on my website yet, I have officially raised over $1,000 for my Team in Training!!!! I can’t believe I have raised over a third of my goal in less than a month. What a rewarding feeling! Team in Training has already changed my life and I haven’t even ran the marathon yet…IĀ  have a strong feeling I might uncontrollably sob throughout the run. Raising money for an awesome cause and seeing how supportive people are of what I am doing is extremely moving. I posted a quote on my Facebook yesterday, but feel the need to repeat it here.

“COMPASSION is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment.”-Arthur Jersild

If there is one truth that I have found, it is that being compassionate is the meaning of my life. Making others happy, bringing hope to others who have it tough…these things in turn bring joy, hope and fulfillment to my life. Thank you all for continuing to support me.

On Earth Day, On the Rocks in downtown Florence will be hosting a fundraising event for my Team in Training. Dillon Hodges and Lee Taylor have volunteered their time and musical talents to entertain us as we unite to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Local businesses have donated door prizes, which will be raffled off all night long. Come out to On the Rocks at 6:00 p.m. on April 22nd for a fun night to support a great cause!

Alrighty…giveaway time!! If you remember a couple weeks ago, I posted that a random donor would be chosen to win a $25 dollar Target giftcard, homemade cookies, and other random goodies. I used random.org’s generator to select a winner fairly. I numbered off the donors in the order of their donation and plugged the numbers in the generater….and the winner is….

True Random Number Generator Min: 1 Max: 15 Result: 4 Powered by RANDOM.ORG
Donor number 4: Ashley White!
Congrats Ash. Thanks for donating to my Team in Training! I’ll send you the goods ASAP :)
It’s been a long day–I’m off to bed! Nighty Night:)

running 26.2 for a cure

TGIF!!! I am super excited today. Not only because it is officially the weekend, but because my Team In Training fund raising begins now!

As I mentioned before, I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training to raise a minimum of $2,900.00 to fund research to help find a cure for blood cancers. I will be running 26.2 miles at the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon on June 6, 2010 in honor of those who have a blood cancer, and those who survived a blood cancer. I’m also runningĀ  in memory of those who have lost their battle, and in the hope that my efforts bring the LLS closer to finding a cure!! In return, the Leukemia & Lymphoma society is providing me with a trainer and workout plans to help me cross the finish line.

I need as much help as I can raising money, and every donation, no matter how big or how small, will be greatly appreciated! Donations are tax-deductible. I will setup a tab at the top of my blog with a link to my fund raising page. I also plan on hosting an event soon (no details yet-but it’s in the works). I plan on keeping you all updated on my training and fund raising efforts through my blog. Please spread the word about LLS & my Team In Training by posting the page link to your facebook, blog, twitter, or by e-mailing it to friends! Let’s help find a cure together!!
